Students in 6th, 7th and 8th grade reading classes will develop the ability to analyze fiction and non-fiction texts. Challenges include determining theme and other literary elements and finding the meaning of words in context, comparing and contrasting texts in different forms and genres, and recognizing how the author develops the characters and the plot through dialogue and action. Classes will view movies and videos to aid in exploring alternative formats and story lines. Students will also have access to iReady which is an individualized online learning platform. Based on diagnostic results, students will complete online activities to improve reading comprehension and writing skills.
