Welcome Preschool Families,
What an exciting time as your young child starts this new chapter in their lives! Our goal this year is to make your child’s first years of school a positive experience.
Your child can look forward to daily large motor time in the gym and outdoors in the play yard (weather permitting). We will all meet together for circle time where we will say hello, pray, pledge our flag, and work with the calendar. Our classroom is divided into play centers where the children will spend the largest portion of time with free choice play. They can choose between the block center, dramatic play/housekeeping, sensory play, math/fine motor manipulatives, art, library, and the writing center. So many of the skills we take for granted are still a process for these young ones and this “playtime” is a stress-free time for them to experiment with new materials and build these much-needed skills, with the most important one being their social interactions.
For some, a large group setting of many children and two non-parental adults may be a new experience. We will really work with each child and their families in building trust and a bond that will bridge the gap to learning. We will be serving a daily snack in a family-style manner. A helper will set the table and the children will serve themselves. Again, we are not only working on self-help skills but the social aspect of eating as well. A snack fee is included in your tuition to cover the cost of the snacks, which we will purchase for class. Please be sure to let us know if your child has any food allergies. This is a wonderful opportunity for your child to experience new foods and sometimes the experience of food preparation.
We will end our day with a variety of literature; in both small and large group settings, along with songs, fingerplays, and movement activities. Remember, the preschool years are all about the process, not the product. Any and every attempt they make along the way is celebrated!
These wonderful early childhood years (3-5-year-olds) are such an exciting time for them and we are so excited to be a part of it. If you ever have any questions or concerns, please feel free to see us. (This may be a first for some of you as well).
Sincerely,
Mrs. Nancy Colagrossi (aka Mrs. C) & Mrs. Serpico (aka Mrs. S)
